Leadership in medicine in my view is working in team, noticing where others need helping hand and reaching out; being creative and making paths where there are no visible paths; noticing system errors and working towards fixing it; creating opportunities where there seems like there aren't any; being persistent and doing the best work possible for patients and colleagues; encouraging colleagues in difficult times, helping push through; growing knowledge daily and helping others to do the same.
Being a good doctor and a good leader can very well go hand in hand, one doesn't exclude the other.
In my professional life I have already had great opportunities and I have met some great leaders & doctors in our own country and abroad. We get to know who they are when we see how they care for the work they do, how they push others forward to achieve more, when we see them do amazing work and changing the system, changing the known for better. □
